Welcome to the WF Tech Page.
In case you do not know me, my name is Terry Shelton, and I am the Computer Network Specialist for the West Frankfort School District in West Frankfort, Illinois. I work alongside Mrs. Hopkins, Mrs. Hood, Mrs. Fry and Mrs. Price in the West Frankfort schools to keep the computers and computer network up and running. This Wiki is a work in progress since I am still learning about Wikis and how to effectively use them.
Have a computer question? Maybe I can help.
- Under the Add a Comment section, I am inviting people to post their questions, and I and my colleagues will give our answers as best as we are able.
- This Wiki is not for anonymous blogging. It is my intention for this page to be a place where people from our community, parents, teachers, even students can post legitimate questions about computers and other related technology. Your comment does not even have to be a question; if you have some really good information about new products, your own personal experiences in managing your own computer, please post it for the rest of us to read.
- Before you can Add a Comment, you must request access to this Wiki. This is done by clicking Request Access in the upper right corner of the Wiki page and following the directions there. Once I have received your request, I will grant you access to post questions or comments. Be advised that what you post will be viewable by anyone reading this page.
Software Updates
- Many people ask me about Software Updates from various software manufacturers. In my experience, I believe it is safe to install updates from Microsoft, Adobe, Symantec, Java and Apple. Generally speaking, these companies update their software on a regular basis, and it is a good idea to keep your software up to date with the latest versions.

Let's start with an easy one. What do you think of Windows 7?

The short answer? I like Windows 7. The desktop, icons and Start menu are pretty well the same as Windows Vista, but the programming code of Windows 7 seems to be more stable than Vista. I have it running on my computer at home; it boots up fairly quickly, it loads programs equally fast and it seems "cleaner" than Windows Vista. Of course if you used to Windows XP, you will have to re-learn where everything is again, but it's to be expected, and we just have to embrace change. After you get used to it, I think you will like it.

Here's an article on restoring some of your favorite icons on the desktop in Windows 7, like the My Computer, Recycle Bin, and Documents (User's Files) icons.

Apparently the iPad only runs one program at a time, does not have a real keyboard, does not support Flash video on the web, does not have a webcam or any USB ports. I would say it is not yet a major competitor to a standard laptop.

The iPad is just an iPhone on steroids that doesn't make calls.

I was eleminating some things off my HD. When emptying the trash, I got a window that said there were four things that could not be deleted. However, when opening the trash bin, it shows no files still there. However, the trash thingy still shows trash in it on the icon. Any suggestions?
